More garden guests

I freely admit my penchant for the critters that show up in the garden. Now, I suppose, I’m reveling in it! Soldier bug and Swallowtail. Both are welcome in my yard any time.

    • There’s a funny story about this Obedient Plant. We were visiting friends in Eatonton, GA some 6 or 7 years ago, and we went to a crafts and plants fair on the town green. A woman was selling plants in Dixie Cups (something funny about plants in Dixie Cups being sold in the Land of Dixie). Any-hoo, I asked her if she had something that would grow here in part-shade. She handed me this tiny Dixie-cup clad obedient plant. “You can’t go wrong with this, honey,” she said, “but, be careful: it spreads.” She took the 50 cents that I owed her, and I was on my way. She was right. I didn’t go wrong with it … and it spreads. There’s a mass of it now in my back yard around 6 feet wide. Attracts the humming birds and the butterflies. And just looks so pretty in August when everything else seems beaten down by the heat. And WordPress? LOVE WordPress.

  1. i’ll give it a whirl. i’ve been experimenting with non-house plants in my high rise. have had a geranium for three years now, still flowers. and some other stuff as well.
